Ruud van Nistelrooy, the legendary Dutch striker whose name is etched into Manchester United history, has left the Old Trafford outfit. The erstwhile Dutch striker had briefly taken over the managerial reins of Old Trafford outfit after Erik ten Hag was shown the door. However, Van Nistelrooy was not among many included names in the coaching staff that new manager Ruben Amorim will be working with.
He is 48, though, having taken over United in July as an assistant coach, guiding the team to three wins and a draw in his four games in charge. However, Amorim chose a different tack for his backroom staff.
As the club noted in an official statement, “Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend.” “We thank him for his contributions and for his devoted approach to the role. He will always be welcome at Old Trafford.”
In addition to assistant coach Rene Hake, who was not at the club last season, and goalkeeper Jelle ten Rouwelaar and defender Pieter Morel, another Van Nistelrooy is leaving: former United midfielder Darren Fletcher will now act in a different capacity, as an assistant coach connecting first team and the academy.
The club confirmed that they would be announcing the full list of coaches for the men’s first team under Amorim’s leadership in the following days.
This is the final chapter of the Dutchman’s second stint at Manchester United. A marauding goalscorer from 2001 to 2006, then Van Nistelrooy had scored 150 in 219 appearances at that point. Sharp shooting, clinical finishing, something to adore, and vital to the success of the club at that time.
Though very short, his coaching stint at the United has been really short, but that his contributions to the club during the playing days are unchallenged. His leaving thus creates a vacuum on the stadium bench, but his legacy as a Manchester United great remains even after exclusion from the team.
