King Charles thanked everyone following a solo attendance by the monarch at a glittering Royal Variety Performance held at London’s world-famous Royal Albert Hall. Queen Camilla decided to stay at home at the advice of doctors still battling lingering effects of a recent chest infection.
In a video shared by the Royal Family on their official Instagram account, the King was seen to have thoroughly enjoyed the evening’s performances. The post, with a caption to their more than 13 million followers, reads: “What a night! ” This statement proceeds by saying, “Last night, The King attended The Royal Variety Performance in aid of the Royal Variety Charity, held in the Royal Albert.”.
Huge thanks to all the talented performers and those behind the scenes making the evening so special.
This was King Charles’ first appearance as the new patron of the Royal Variety Charity, which is the role in succession from his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II. The 76-year-old king carried on the tradition and showed satisfaction in the performances and how much good work the charity does.
The newlyweds were greeted with flowers on behalf of Queen Camilla by two young attendees, eight-year-old Iris King-Taylor and ten-year-old Louie Cooper. As if the warmth from the performers and audience was enough to compensate for the lack of his wife, the evening continued jovially under the circumstances.
The show was hosted by British television personalities Alan Carr and Amanda Holden, who were thrilled by the King’s presence. Holden reflected on her interaction with the monarch, sharing, “His Majesty was amazingly charming – he said we definitely earned our pound that we got paid. I’ve always said out of everyone, he’s got the best sense of humour in the whole of the Royal Family.”
Fans of the Royal Family expressed gratitude over social media. One follower commented, “That looks like fun, Your Majesty. I hope you always have good health.” Another added, “Love this! Thanks for sharing.
As Queen Camilla was not present, there was still a strong feeling that her health was the prior concern as she continued her recovery under medical supervision. As such, some public engagements had to be sidelined due to recent illness, but the public and the Royal Family alike warmly acknowledge her presence whenever possible.
The Royal Variety Performance is a much-debated event, with top theatrical and musical talents coming together to help raise funds for the Royal Variety Charity. It provides support to individuals within the performing arts who encounter hardship-a cause to be close to the heart of the Royal Family. With his dedication to tradition, even at a personal and very difficult time, King Charles showed up for the occasion and delivered his heartfelt message. Fans and supporters wish the King well; it’s more importantly hoped for Queen Camilla’s speedy recovery and the royal couple’s attendance at their next engagements in unison.
