Dua Lipa Cancels Jakarta Concert, Citing “Safety Issues with Staging”

Dua Lipa has cancelled her scheduled concert in Jakarta, part of her Radical Optimism tour, amid what’s been labeled “unforeseen safety and logistical issues” with the staging. However, on social media, the 29-year-old singer expressed her disappointment in the situation, saying, “I am here in your amazing country and ready to perform, but I am gutted to share that it has been determined that it is not safe for the performance to carry on due to safety issues with the staging.”

Lipa, visibly disappointed about the news, added, “I was so looking forward to tonight, and it really hurts my heart that we cannot come out and perform for you all, especially after such a long time since my last performance in Jakarta.” Reaffirming her affection for her fans, she promised that she would soon catch up with them by saying, “I love you all and really can’t wait to be back together in the same room with you singing and dancing our hearts out as soon as possible.”

TEM Presents and PK Entertainment, the concert’s organizers, posted a joint statement on Lipa’s website, echoing her sentiments. They confirmed that cancellation was unavoidable due to “unforeseen safety and logistical issues.” The statement read that Dua Lipa and her team had done everything possible to prepare for the performance, working tirelessly to address critical production challenges associated with the stage setup provided by Mata Elang Productions. But the issues with regards to the crowd’s and the performers’ safety were the ones that never did let the show go on as planned. “This very difficult decision to cancel was made with the utmost care and consideration for the safety of both the audiences and artist,” the statement noted, emphasizing the organizers’ commitment to ensuring a safe concert experience.

Lipa has been riding on a high wave of success following the release of her tour Radical Optimism, which was a follow-up to her second and third studio albums, Future Nostalgia and Radical Optimism, that immediately went straight to number-one. Her takes have taken her to some global stages, where people throng the venues to listen to her perform hits from what appears to be a serious catalog. The showstopper earlier this year was her performance at the Glastonbury Festival where, performing a string of fan favorites on the iconic Pyramid Stage with chart-toppers like These Walls, Break My Heart, Hallucinate, Electricity, Physical, and that smash hit Don’t Start Now.

The Brit Award-winning singer, Lipa has been rife with dominating the pop music world and making individual accolades and high-profile collaborations. Lipa’s career has also included four number one singles, such as Cold Heart with Sir Elton John, One Kiss with Calvin Harris, and Dance The Night, the catchy addition to the Barbie film soundtrack.
