Chloë Grace Moretz comes out as “Gay Woman” in support of Kamala Harris

Recently, Chloë Grace Moretz, the star of Kick-Ass, publicly declared herself a “gay woman” while canvassing for Kamala Harris in the United States presidential campaign. The 27-year-old actress, who appeared in Kick-Ass, Hugo, Carrie, and The Equalizer, took to Instagram last Friday, November 1, to announce that she voted early for the Democratic nominee.

Moretz attached a photo of herself holding an “I Voted Early” sticker on the seat of her jeans for her reasons to vote Harris, mainly wanting the current government to better protect their LGBTQ+ community. She wrote: “I voted early and I voted for @KamalaHarris. There’s so much on the line this election.”. I don’t believe the government has any right to any woman’s body; the decision on any part of our bodies should be made by ourselves and our doctors alone, she concluded.

The blogger assured in her blog that she thinks Harris will not disappoint these rights and, “Kamala Harris will protect that for us,” she said. “I believe that this country needs to make sure we have protections to safeguard the LGBTQ+ community, and as a gay woman, that means needing protections in this country so that we have access to the care that we need and deserve. SO. Are you voting early? Let’s get a plan together to get to your polling place with your friends! Go to IWillVote.com to figure out the best plan for you.”

It’s the first time Moretz has discussed her sexuality as graphically. Although her personal life has remained more or less private, reports have popped up about earlier relationships from the media in the past. She dated model Kate Harrison in 2018 on a Malibu, California beach, though it has been reported as a boyfriend-girlfriend relation.

In embracing Harris, Moretz joins a long list of growing entertainment industry movers and shakers who have come out to endorse the democratic candidate. Her endorsement comes however just a day after Bruce Springsteen campaigned through a commercial ad called “Hopes and Dreams”. Similarly, pop star Taylor Swift broke her silence earlier in the election season, stating that she would vote for Harris as she “fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”

Other than musicians, Hollywood stars are also voicing their endorsement. Last week, key cast members of Marvel’s Avengers franchise—Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Don Cheadle—reunited to show their support for Harris through a shared Instagram video. Former Republican governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger also made headlines as he endorsed Harris. “I will always be an American before I am a Republican,” he said, explaining his support for Harris and Tim Walz. That is why this week I am voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. I’m sharing it with all of you because I think there are a lot of you who feel like I do. You don’t recognize our country. And you’re right to be angry.

As the elections take place, Moretz joins the voices calling for the protection of both personal rights and the rights of citizens regardless of sexual orientation.
