In a final moment of clarity about taking over the England national team, highly sought-after manager Thomas Tuchel has finally broken his silence. For months now, Thomas Tuchel would be reportedly joining Manchester United; the reasons are so compelling that he’s going to lead the Three Lions instead.
Indeed, the Manchester United woes under Erik ten Hag had intensified rumors that Tuchel will go to Old Trafford. However, the German coach opted for a different journey – entering the world of international football as the coach of England.
“That the FA brought a very clear and confidential plan,” said Tuchel. “It was a straightforward decision about this specific job, not a rejection of anything else.”
This will be Tuchel’s first experience in international management. He recognises the momentous differences that exist between club and country football; indeed, he admitted to initial reservations but liked the charm of returning to England and shared the vision with the FA.
“The schedule is quite different,” Tuchel admitted. “But I have always wanted to return to England, that was a major goal. The offer came at the perfect time, and we discovered a shared vision. Now I have to deliver on it. I am aware of the trophy expectations, and I am here to contribute to achieving that.”
Tuchel’s official agreement runs till the end of the World Cup in 2026, but reportedly, up to that date. “It’s 18 months, then, after that, we’ll have a chance to reassess. Eighteen-month contracts haven’t always been exactly my preferred phenomenon, but I am committed to the long term,” he said about his contract duration.
What was tempting to Tuchel about the Manchester United vacancy, but he has instead opted for a path under the English national side. Being enthusiastic regarding the project and centered on a shared vision between him and the FA, this seems like a new pathway of excitement for the Three Lions.
