Indeed, for a long time, fans of the inducting had been waiting when 2024 was put forward to induct Cher into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The iconic singer, bringing along their powerful voice and some groundbreaking music, indeed knew how to put the words into a speech that would be paid tribute and given a long-lasting memory.
Cher had previously professed skepticism about being in the Hall of Fame, but she finally decided she was going to take her honor. She thanked everyone involved who helped shape and mold her into the artist she became during a speech in which she reflected on both the difficulties faced over the years and celebrated her triumphs.
“I am very lucky,” Cher reflected in her case. “I have been in a lot of adversity and have also been incredibly lucky. She taught me never to give up, and that’s something I have taken with me my whole life.”
Cher spoke about thanks to her longtime mentor, David Geffen, as well as paid homage to her mother who instilled in her a working ethic and success drive.
With her signature wit and charm, Cher delivered a poignant yet entertaining speech. She joked about the challenges of getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame while being overtly thankful for her inclusion.
“I’ve changed the sound of music forever,” Cher proclaimed. “I’m proud of the work I’ve done, and I’m honored to be included in this incredible group of artists.”
Introducing Cher, Zendaya described the “unique” talent who has inspired more artists than any other. “Her voice is so unique that any song she sings becomes a Cher song,” Zendaya said. “She has worked in many genres and defined new ones.”
A very deserved induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Cher marked an overdue recognition by people who have reached such a distinctive level of achievement in their work. Cher’s speech gave tribute to the kind of legacy she continues to build and create in popular culture.
