A Family Affair

This love for boxing began way back when his father was an amateur boxer. Thus, the lad began training as early as he could, since his father was an amateur boxer. As a child growing up in Essex, England, Whittaker was nurtured to love the sport, which later escalated into a professional career.

The Show Must Go On

While Whittaker has boxing ability, it’s the showmanship that sets him apart. Dancing and posturing to ring gymnastics, Whittaker always puts on a performance. But don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s just show business. Whittaker is a serious competitor with a dedication to his craft.

A Night of Boxing

As Whittaker prepares to face Liam Cameron, he comes with an unusual approach as he does with his training. He is not having his hot workouts and strict diets but prefers a very loose approach. While preparing for the night before the fight, he intends to spend his night munching pizzas and watching anime shows.

“Some people want to get all spiritual and focus,” Whittaker said. “My focus is not focusing. From the outside it looks like you’re messing around, but really you’re just taking your mind away from it. I think that’s the best thing.”

The Switch

When the bell rings, his alternate personality surfaces. The showman disappears, and the fighter appears. Whittaker is fast on his feet with lightning-reflexes and can work tirelessly.

“I know when to flick it, and when to switch and have fun and stuff [with his showboating], ” Whittaker said. “I’d rather just train, get the job done and go home. But I know you need to do that. It’s a good thing to have because it gets people talking and it gets people wanting to watch. You need that switch. It’s a switch that the stars have and luckily enough I’ve got that switch.”

When Whittaker goes in that ring on Saturday night, he’ll surely look to display a performance fans won’t forget for a long time. Not to mention the combination of skill, athleticism and showmanship, Whittaker will firmly be on his way to becoming the greatest boxing superstar.
