A New Generation for 007: A New Angle

The Bond of Tomorrow

James Bond may have been in a great vacuum since there is no new film to watch, yet the fans of the saga never stopped waiting for the next series. Finally, Amazon MGM and Barbara Broccoli are playing their cards with deliberate delay-lace; the door remains open: will it be a radical departure from the classic era when the next 007 arises?

Amazon MGM Studios head Jennifer Salke has helped calm nerves about the delay and assured people that there is no reason to worry. The unending raining of new and different content might make it look more long-drawn, but Salke is of the opinion that the international viewers will be more than patient. Still, the creative direction remains entirely with Barbara Broccoli, Bond legend Albert Broccoli’s daughter.

Not a Bond-themed TV show or “Bond universe” to really suggest next time around will be any more of an event than the last, harkening back to the age of global cinema of the golden era. Never a fan of these current quick nostalgia play-throughs, there is a pretty strong argument that this latest film won’t be part of the culture and conversation in this changing entertainment landscape.

A Gen-Z Bond?

The long wait may create a generational gap for a new Bond film. By the time the next one rolls around, the audience may have shifted, and probably the franchise needs to be changed for a younger generation.

A possible answer to this question might be a new Bond who has a more positive attitude towards the zeitgeist of the moment. This could manifest as a younger agent who carries out espionage with a more-modern perspective of the world and carrying on his espionage through a more-contemporary approach.
This would be a massive deviation from the traditional understanding of the Bond character, but perhaps it could also be a life-saver for the franchise in attracting a more-diverse audience.

The Future of 007

The future of James Bond is uncertain, but there is definitely something that will happen for sure: the franchise has to evolve to be able to exist. It can be done through radical departure from the Bondian era old or through simple modernization; the next Bond film may redefine the iconic spy.

The future of the franchise hangs in the balance, and all will be known when Barbara Broccoli announces the newest 007. Only time will tell if they can deliver a film on par with long-time fans’ expectations while at the same time satisfying the new generation.
