Brad Pitt, at 60, appears to be taking a page out of the Harry Styles playbook when it comes to his latest fashion choices. Despite the wide age gap between them, Pitt has proven that he can hold his own against the young pop star’s bold and eccentric style, having undergone a wardrobe makeover that raises eyebrows on and off the red carpet. From sheer shirts to platform boots, it would appear that the Hollywood star is embracing a new, more daring aesthetic rather befitting Styles’ signature look.
Harry Styles has been ruling the fashion world with his colorful prints, flamboyant suits, and gender-fluid fashion for years. And it seems like Pitt has quietly taken note. Pitt’s latest style transformation, seen during his red carpet debut with girlfriend Ines de Ramon at the Venice Film Festival, suggests that the actor is ditching his traditional tailored suits in favor of something more adventurous-and eerily reminiscent of Styles’ own wardrobe.
For the Venice premiere of Wolfs, Pitt wore a Louis Vuitton-although one with a see-through black shirt underneath an oversized blazer, layering on several necklaces and rings. He finished it off with flare trousers and a pair of black platform boots for a look that some are likening to the similar fashion risks taken by Styles. How can we forget Styles’ 2019 Met Gala appearance in a semi-sheer lace ensemble with pearl earrings and heeled shoes?
Pitt’s recent look was, hands down, the clear interpretation of Styles’ Met Gala outfit. Both men opted for sheer fabrics, pearls, and statement shoes. And while Styles has been a fan of flared trousers for long, having worn them several times-including on the red carpet at the 2023 Brit Awards-Pitt seems to be taking after him, quite literally. With Styles’ own track record for fashion statements in flares, including on his Fine Line album cover in 2019, one may be asking whether this is just the beginning of Pitt’s venture into bold and more colorful fashion statements.
Coupled with sheer shirts and flares, a new love of statement colors completes Pitt’s wardrobe refresh. The striking green leather shirt jacket he sported while watching the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit in July of 2023-with a matching T-shirt underneath and shades tinted brown-was not indicative of anything Pitt would normally wear in neutral tones. Therefore, once again, hinting toward Styles’ influence. Styles himself is quite the green enthusiast; at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival alone, he turned up with a moss-green Gucci blazer with a large floral accessory across its top, green tailored trousers, and a bright green handbag.
Both Pitt and Styles have proved that neither is scared to experiment with bold colors and fashion risks-be it a casual day at a racing event or a red-carpet moment. The fact that both men gravitate toward similar shades and statement pieces hints that Pitt may well be drawing inspiration from the younger style icon.
But on to trousers: Pitt’s sartorial evolution continues to surprise. He later appeared in Los Angeles after a whirlwind trip to Venice, in funky houndstooth print trousers, complete with a bucket hat and tan tote bag. The loose-fit trousers and quirky pattern immediately invoked Styles’ penchant for playful prints, he sported time and again on Love On Tour. He’s made a name for himself styling everything from spots and stripes to diamonds and hearts, and fans were always wondering what pattern he would wear next. That Pitt has reached for such statement prints, too, suggests a perhaps growing love for this weird, casual style.
Even when Pitt goes for something more classic, it looks like there is some hint of Styles’ influence. Brad Pitt: cool and classy, pale blue suit, white T-shirt, and aviator shades at the Venice Festival. J fing, the suit jacket did resemble that of Styles’ own Gucci blue worn back in 2020 during the release of his “Golden” single. While Pitt’s version was more subdued and nothing much underneath, like a simple T-shirt, Styles’s look had more detailing to its pale blue and white striped shirt and the gloves with crochet.
Whereas one would be tempted to attribute the new style evolution of Pitt simply to a trend of coincidence, the similarity between his choices and the attainted looks already minted by Styles aren’t just examples that could be poo-pooed. Sheer shirts, platform boots, bold colors, playful prints-Pitt seems to be casing the spirit of Styles in his fashion choices.
But above all, Pitt’s recent fashion experimentation just proves that style knows no age limit. By embracing a more daring wardrobe, Pitt is proving he’s not only still a force in Hollywood, but he’s ready and willing to take some risks and have a little fun with his look. Whether or not he’s intentionally borrowing from Styles, one thing is for certain: Brad Pitt is having a major fashion moment, and the world is watching.
