Elton John’s Serious Infection of the Eyes Has Kept Him Half Blind

Legendary 77-year-old musician Elton John says he has limited vision in one eye because of a near-fatal infection in his eyes. On an emotional post made through Instagram, the legendary singer described how, although he is healing now, the doctors say recovery will be painfully slow.

Over the summer, John fought off his infection, which seriously affected his vision; he had partial sight in only one eye. John was optimistic about having gone through such a life fight and composed: “Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye. I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process, and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”

He also expressed immense gratitude to the medical team and his family, who stood by him throughout this recuperation period. “I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks,” John said. Yet, he remains buoyant: “I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery so far.”

Since John’s update, a number of celebrities and friends have reached out with words of encouragement. Among the first was fashion designer Donatella Versace, who wrote, “Take your time and recover, Elton.”. “We’ll be here waiting for your return when you’re healthy and ready.” Another well-wisher was radio presenter Bob Harris, who tweeted: “Sending you much love Elton.” Adding his name to the chorus of support was actor Layton Williams.

Meanwhile, John has not stopped making news even while recovering. Recently, it was announced that the documentary *Elton John: Never Too Late* would be making its European premiere at this year’s BFI London Film Festival. This new documentary film promises an intimate look into his life and career, complementing the rich legacy he has made over the years.

Elton John launched his career upwards of five decades ago with timeless hits like “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting,” “I’m Still Standing,” and “Your Song”-the kind of hits that would cement him in the annals of music history. His life story was told only last year in the movie *Rocketman*, in which he was portrayed by actor Taron Egerton-a fact that continues to seal his mark on popular culture.

In November 2021, John was made a member of the Order of the Companions of Honour for services to the arts. This is but one of many awards during his career that has seen him become one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with over 300 million records sold globally.

While Elton John remains on the road to recovery, his fans and friends look forward with anticipation to his full health. Such strength in adversity serves as an inspiration to all, sending into the world yet another reminder of that indomitable spirit which has defined his truly remarkable life and career.
