Adele Announces Extended Hiatus from Music Amid Engagement to Rich Paul

Adele recently confirmed that she is going to take an extended break from her music career, timing this announcement with her engagement to sports agent Rich Paul. In the final show of a ten-show run in Munich, Germany, the 36-year-old singer confirmed that she was wrapping up her European tour.

After her European dates, Adele will return to Las Vegas for a final run of shows that begins October 25 and runs through November 23. In July, the singer had revealed she’d be taking some time off from music, saying she had “no plans” on releasing new material when her Las Vegas residency ends after its two-year cycle.

During her recent concert show in Munich, it looked like Adele put some flesh into her plans that her musical hiatus will be quite a while. During her show, she even got sentimental as she is heard to address her audience, “I’ve got 10 shows to do, but after that I will not see you for an incredibly long time and I will hold you dear in my heart.” This announcement was recorded by an avid fan on TikTok and played for further hype and speculation among the singer’s followers.

Back in July, Adele had told ZDF in an interview that she was actually “eager” for a break from the music scene. She wanted to do other creative things, she said: “I want a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things. Just for a little while.”

The rumors of the engagement of Adele are running hotter. During the early show in Munich, the singer confirmed her relationship status as she rocked an engagement ring, telling an excited audience, “I’m getting married”. Adele and Rich Paul have been linked since 2021. According to sources, they got engaged last month in Tottenham, North London, Adele’s hometown.

At the Munich concert, Adele responded to the fan who had the word “Will you marry me?” on a sign jokingly by saying, “I can’t marry you because I’m already getting married!” Due to the fact that their engagement was full of rumors, this confirmation merely clarified all the speculation.

News of their engagement comes months after speculation, including reports that Adele and Rich were actually married. A source close to the singer said Rich proposed on a trip to Tottenham-a deliberate choice to pay homage to Adele’s roots. It was a sensitive move, considering there had been rumors that the couple was previously secretly hitched.

There was also the previous incident where it was said that Adele confirmed her marriage during a comedy show by Alan Carr in Los Angeles. According to one in the audience, when Alan Carr asked if anyone in the audience had recently gotten married, Adele shouted, “I did,” which adds to the speculation.

This has prompted CBS host Gayle King to more recently ask Rich Paul about the rumor of their marriage. He asked, “Is Adele now Mrs. Paul?”, a question to which he responded vaguely, leaning on his stated preference to keep personal matters private.

Adele was previously married to Simon Konecki from 2018 until 2021. They share an 11-year-old son, Angelo.

But aside from the personal news, Adele’s just-finished Munich concerts were not without their own share of problems. In one concert, the weather was just terrible; the rain was so hard it caused a wardrobe malfunction. Adele had to take a break to attend to a soaked and heavy dress train that had absorbed rainwater. The crowd remained entertained by her usual charm and humor as she expressed frustrations and gratitude toward her fans and support team.

The special moment of Munich’s shows has also presented Adele performing “Chasing Pavements,” which is the hit from her very first album “19” presented in 2008. It was the first time in seven years she sang this track live and made her current tour even more memorable.

Adele’s much-considered hiatus seems to be shaping up as an important chapter in the career of Adele, whereby she needed this time to tend to personal pursuits and new creative projects. And her fans are waiting for her return, while she gets ready for another phase in life, both in personal and professional areas.
