Zac Efron, star of The Iron Claw and Baywatch, has finally come out to the public after his health scare in Ibiza. This past weekend, the 35-year-old star became the victim of a slight mishap while swimming and was admitted to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
Efron reassured fans in an Instagram post, saying he is “happy and healthy.” He shared a picture of himself exercising with a Pilates ball to drive the point home. He wrote, “Thanks for the well wishes.”
According to sources, the 36-year-old actor was pulled from the water by two employees of the villa at which he was staying. The incident sent him briefly to the hospital; his representative, however, said it was just a precautionary measure and that Efron is fine.
Efron has spoken several times about disengaging and finding solace in nature. He feels that going outdoors is a process that enables him to shed the person he has been to get in touch with his real self after the wrap of a role. “When filming is done, I need to disconnect. Be out in nature and let the character drift out of me,” he told The Rake magazine. “I think you need to re-engage with who you are before you head back and try to be with your friends and family.”
The actor is well-known to love travel and exploration. He considers traveling to be an escape from the somewhat enclosing life in Los Angeles and as a means through which he can see other cultures. “One of the biggest blessings of my journey is that I’ve been able to travel from a young age,” said Efron. “Exploring new parts of the world, trying the food, meeting the people, finding out as much about their culture as possible – it opens your eyes to something much bigger than Hollywood.”
This will be Efron’s Europe-bound tour after a near-catastrophic accident in 2022, when he broke his jaw slipping and slamming onto the corner of a fountain. He told Men’s Health that “my chin bone was hanging off my face.” Through all of this, though, Efron has remained upbeat and kept his sense of adventure.
