Sabrina Carpenter will release her sixth studio album, Short n’ Sweet, on August 23, 2024. With its approach comes a 25-year-old singer-songwriter who is stepping in to make some updates about her ever-changing experience in the music business—from her first days as a Disney child star to being now a chart-topping artist whose tracks include Espresso and Please Please Please.
In a recent conversation with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Carpenter reflected on personal and creative growth: “It’s interesting to reflect on it now, because I don’t feel like I’ve changed that much,” she said—speaking toward the resilience of her vision. “I feel like the seed was always there, of me always kind of having a direction and having an opinion and having an idea and steering a ship, that was always there—whether people want to believe that or not.”
Her journey, however, has not been smooth. She attested that life’s experiences shaped her as an artist today, especially in moments of humility and making the wrong jokes. “I think through obviously life experiences through being humbled through making the wrong jokes, I really have found this place right now where I definitely don’t have it all together and I don’t know it all,” she admitted, showing a sense of self-discovery.
The next album by Carpenter, Short n’ Sweet, will be a big part of that self-discovery. She explained the title of her album by saying, “I called it Short n’ Sweet for multiple reasons. It was not because I’m vertically challenged. It was really like I thought about some of these relationships and how some of them were the shortest I’ve ever had and they affected me the most.” This insight into her personal life reveals just how deep her experiences have influenced her music.
With Short n’ Sweet headed for its release date, fans of Carpenter are only getting more curious about just how this chapter of her life unfolds in her music. Plainly, Sabrina Carpenter’s journey has only just begun with this album, which promises to speak volumes in terms of development and fleeting but deep relationships.
