Review: “Charlotte Dawson Stands Her Ground: ‘It’s My Life, Not Yours'”

Nothing could be further than the fact when TV reality star Charlotte Dawson, who has exposed her life for public scrutiny for quite a while now, was to take on the online trolls. She has only announced to expect her third child with her fiancé, Matt Sarsfield, thus eliciting mixed reactions in people. While most of them have expressed their joy over the news, there is a wave of negativity that Charlotte is intending to stem.

So, Charlotte takes to social media, really venting out, whining at everything and at those quite insensitive comments thrown her way. Literally, her moment was marred by the recent upheaval in her relationship with Matt, who much emotionally broke her heart with inappropriate texts sent to another lady after her pregnancy announcement, complete with great exhilaration. There is so much to resolve, she is shielding her happiness and that of an unborn child amidst all this chaos.

First of all, Charlotte was overwhelmed with happiness from the colossal outpour of support that came from fans and well-wishers as a result of one Instagram post: “Thank you for all the support, lovely comments, and messages! I am overwhelmed and will try to get back to everyone, but just so you all know, I love you all and [am] very grateful for you all,” she wrote, moved by the care so many showed.

A few cutting words, all this well-meaning warmth was eclipsed. She did not spare a word as she replied to the negativity, emphasizing more than anything the fact that criticism at these hard times was very hurting, not to speak of how unnecessary it was. “Do not forget that I have had to face all this negative stuff in the first trimester, which is utterly grim,” she wrote to remind him of the cost, personally paid by her, for the stress.

Charlotte has been very open about how this should have been a time of joy, celebrating new life; it’s been at the mercy of stress and heartache. “This is supposed to be the happiest time of your life and has been the worst time of my life,” she confessed in a candid message truly describing the emotional rollercoaster she has been on.

That’s the last from Charlotte, though, focusing on the positive. She said every child is a blessing and that she feels so blessed despite the challenges. “But every baby is a blessing, and I’m so blessed right now. And I’m trying to remain as calm as I can right now and look after this baby,” she revealed, showing just how much of a resilient and devoted soul she is to her growing family.

In a powerful appeal that is sure to resonate with many who have been at the receiving end of online abuse, Charlotte implored her followers to practice some kindness. She added to it, saying, “Please be kind; if you have nothing nice to say, just don’t say it.” This is something that seems to be so easily forgotten in this harsh, digitally advanced world.

Yeah, well, Charlotte had a message for all those negative Nellies. She quite clearly spelled it out that in no way will she change her life decisions just because of them: “Whatever I decide to do has nothing to do with anyone else. It’s my life, not yours,” said the girl as she set out the threshold.

The latest chapter in Charlotte Dawson’s life made one remember: in the hinterland of this business of feel-good television lurks the real emotion and struggle that comes with it. Her openness to pain and joy, doggedness to shield her family from bad vibes, took testimonies to the inner strength required to live under the limelight. Now, as she’s about to bring her second baby into the world, Charlotte is going to take it in stride, with nonchalance and without apologies.
