It has indeed been about 15 years since Oasis-a britpop band-entered a supernova explosion of bad blood. This is the time for them to untie the knots. Fronted by brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, the generation-defining Manchester natives have tantalized fans with the promise of an imminent, earth-shattering announcement this Tuesday at 8 am on August 27, culminating in speculation over their reunion.
Oasis, known worldwide by the performances of “Wonderwall,” “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” and “Champagne Supernova,” broke up in 2009 after a backstage quibble at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris. Since then, the story of the Gallagher brothers has been really twisted, and the idea of reunion looked like a dream far, far away for all their fans. However, despite the estrangement, both brothers went on to have successful solo careers: Liam at the head of Beady Eye and Noel in the formation of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
But recent events have brought the possibility of an Oasis comeback right back into the fold. Liam Gallagher’s show at the Reading Festival this past Sunday was enough to convince many that something big was going down. Speculation around the reunion shot through the roof on Friday when Liam and Noel, both shared a cryptic post — shared by the band’s Instagram — about this time 08:00.
This fans of Oasis teaser have worked it into a frenzy for the actual announcement. Expectations now are shooting through the roof: with tour dates, venues and speculation of new music by the band the timing might never be better for an Oasis reunion, Britpop is back on the agenda, as is the forthcoming 30th anniversary of *Definitely Maybe,* their groundbreaking debut.
Liam Gallagher has always made it known that he never thought Oasis should have broken up to begin with. In an interview in 2017 with *The Independent*, following the release of his debut solo album, he commented on the split this way: “I would rather be in a band, and we should never ever have split up, but I’m not arsed about it at all, you know what I mean? I was – I needed it four years ago, but I certainly don’t f***ing need it now. I prefer to be in a band – one that makes the same kind of racket as Oasis.”
This candid admission brought out his attachment to the band and his brother despite their differences. For that period, however, Liam insisted there was no reunion in sight. Come 2024, the situation seemingly has changed, and both brothers seem amenable to the idea of coming together once again.
While the possibility of an Oasis reunion has been considered for years by many as wishful thinking on behalf of fans, recent strong hints and an opportune time for the announcement of the teaser have kindled real hope that perhaps, after all, it may be true the band finally buries the hatchet.
As the clock ticks to the expected announcement, it has left the fans wondering what the future really holds for Oasis. Is this leading into some kind of comeback tour-perhaps to mark the 30th anniversary of *Definitely Maybe*-with a spate of special performances? Do they have new music in the works, re-igniting the fire that made Oasis one of the defining bands of the 1990s? Or is this just another turn of the screw in the long-running soap opera that constitutes the Gallagher brothers’ dysfunctional relationship?
Be that as it may, excitement about the possible reunion has reached a fever pitch. There are very few bands as legendary in the annals of the music industry as Oasis, and just that fact alone is enough to spring their fans into action with the news of their potential return. Whether that is true, the jury’s still out, yet one thing is clear: Oasis can and will enthrall the world again, and the excitement over prospects of a reunion is definitely legitimized.
With only hours to go until the big announcement, fans from all over the world are holding their breath in hopes that today will be the day Oasis will finally return. A reunion tour, arrival of new music, or something nobody could anticipate-the world is ready to find out what the Gallagher brothers have in store.
