The close relationship between Meryl Streep and Martin Short has resulted in speculation regarding their relationship after an appearance at a Hollywood party last week. Even though the two actors left the party in different cars, their undeniable attraction for one another started speculations whether more was cooking between the two.
Rumors about them possibly being an item started to kick in when they made an appearance together at the “Only Murders in the Building” premiere. Insiders present at the event made sure to note the attachment of the two to each other, from a “close friendship” to even hinting that there might be something more than the professional trail or just a “showmance.” Yet another insider present at the event said, “There is definitely something there.”
While they weren’t seen holding hands throughout the entire evening, those who witnessed their interaction said the 74-year-old Streep was really hung onto Short whenever they were together. “They walked in holding hands and were in great spirits, laughing. It was very sweet and cute,” one source said to Page Six.
But despite speculation, a rep for Streep was quick to squash the dating rumors, saying, “They are just friends.”
Short himself has spoken in the past of his admiration for Streep, telling Extra, “I think it’s been a friendship that always grows if you work with someone and love that person.”
Of course, rumors may always remain, but for the time being, Streep and Short remain just two very close and cherished friends. Their undeniable magic on-and-off screen will keep them at the headline of news, with fans and observers alike eager to see what’s in store for this favorite couple of theirs.
