Greggs, the bakery chain favorite, is to build a huge new distribution center at Symmetry Park in Kettering, it announced today.
Why is this important?
Greggs is on incredible growth. Today, they have 2,500 shops across the UK. But that’s not everything—Greggs has a vision to have more than 3,000 shops. To do this, they need significantly more space for warehousing and distributing tasty bakery goods.
What’s in the plan?
The new National Distribution Centre will be of considerable size, with 311,551 square feet of logistics space. It will thus have enough space to store and manage all products Greggs may need to stock in their shops. The centre will sit on a large piece of land measuring 25.1 acres.
More space for the future:
Greggs doesn’t stop there. Tritax Symmetry, the development partner working with the firm Greggs, seeks permission for another 100,000 square feet. This added space shall facilitate further growth for Greggs in times to come.
A part of something bigger:
This distribution centre will be part of Symmetry Park. Symmetry Park is a major zone of 136 acres in size. It is already consented to host tonnes of logistics space of 2,310,000 square feet. It thus gives room for lots of other businesses and storage spaces of the likes Greggs has in plan.
When will it be ready?
Assuming everything goes according to plan and all required permissions are obtained, Greggs is hoping this new distribution center can be up and running in the first half of 2027. Less than two years away, it just goes to show how fast Greggs is moving toward its goals.
Why does Greggs need this?
With more shops, Greggs needs to be better placed than ever before to deliver its own products efficiently and as quickly as possible. The new center will help them do just that. It would supply both ambient and chilled products to all its shops. This of course means fresher products and better service for customers.
A Step into the Future:
One large part of the new center will make up a key part of the plan by Greggs to continue in its growth. By committing to this sizable distribution center, Greggs will be better positioned to face the stores’ demands and increased customer demand in the future. It’s show they are thinking ahead and are planning for success.
Greggs is set to build a new large distribution centre at Symmetry Park in Kettering. This centre will enable them to grow from 2,500 to over 3,000 shops in the UK. With 311,551 square feet of space, plus an additional 100,000 square feet potentially, this centre is a big part of their future plans. Subject to everything going well, it will be up and running by the first half of 2027 and be key to Greggs getting more products out to more shops efficiently. This is an exciting step for Greggs as they continue to grow and serve more customers.
