Elon Musk’s X Eliminates Crypto Emojis, Leaving Community Baffled

Elon Musk’s X has once again sparked controversy in the cryptocurrency community by removing cryptocurrency emojis that had been used for over four years.

The crypto community on X is perplexed by the decision to eliminate several crypto emojis, including the Bitcoin BTC – $67,096 emoji, from the social media platform.

Reports indicate that X removed the Bitcoin hashtag emoji and several other crypto emojis on July 25.

Crypto emoji removals on X are not limited to Bitcoin

The cryptocurrency community has swiftly reacted to the removal of crypto emojis, with many industry advocates expressing disappointment over the missing icons.

Some observers speculated that the removal of the Bitcoin emoji from X could negatively affect Bitcoin’s price. The deletions were not limited to BTC; other coins such as Crypto.com Coin (CRO) – $0.09 and BNB – $577 have also seen their hashtags removed from X after being adopted in 2020.

As previously reported, X co-founder Jack Dorsey officially introduced the Bitcoin emoji in February 2020, when Bitcoin was trading at around $10,000, according to CoinGecko data.

The removal of the emojis coincided with the start of the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville on July 25, leaving the crypto community particularly puzzled by the timing of this decision.

The conference will feature prominent speakers, including Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Trump, who has identified himself as a pro-crypto candidate, is scheduled to speak at the conference on July 27.
