Elon Musk Says Tesla’s Robots Will Work Next Year

Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that the company was sending out functional humanoid robots to factories in 2025. The name given to those robots would be Optimus. They are all set to hit the markets in the year 2026. Musk posted the update on his social media platform, X.

Elon Musk and Tesla’s Humanoid Robots

Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, held an update that was full of good tidings. Beginning in 2025, Tesla plans to have humanoid robots working in their factories. These are the same robots—Optimus—they are developing to help people with boring, repetitive, and dangerous tasks. Musk hopes to sell these robots to other companies by 2026.

Musk’s Bold Claims

Musk is a master of the big promise — at least on social media. He announced his latest plan, as he often does, on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. He also founded another company, SpaceX, that has something to do with space travel. In 2021, Musk promised that Optimus robots would be working in Tesla factories by the following year. At this point, it appears the timeline for that has been pushed back a bit.

About Optimus

Optimus is about 1.7 meters tall and weighs around 56 kilograms. The name is derived from the Optimus Prime character from the Transformers series. Musk showcased these robots during an event called Tesla AI Day in 2021. During that event, an actor in a robot suit dancing to electronic music was supposed to convey what the robot could look like.

AI Day Events and Demos

On a different AI Day event in 2022, Musk revealed a prototype of the Optimus robot that walked across the stage and waved to the audience. A video also showed it doing tasks such as carrying a box, watering plants, or moving metal bars around in Tesla’s factory. According to Musk, one day the business in robots could be worth more than Tesla’s car business.

Future Plans and Challenges

He has big plans for the robots and wants to produce millions of them, selling for less than $20,000 each. But it’s not the first time Musk’s projects have been put on hold. In 2019, Musk claimed Tesla would have self-driving taxis cruising the streets in 2020. That hasn’t happened yet. But Musk earlier this year said a new car model would be shown on August 8, which might also be delayed because of changes he requested for the car.

Conclusion

Elon Musk’s statement about Tesla’s humanoid robots has created a great stir. But if he really does turn out to be correct, then it will be these robots that change the way factories work in the future. But as of now, everyone is just going to have to wait for Optimus to start its job in Tesla’s factories by 2025 and be ready for sale by 2026.
