Due to an information systems issue, Aena and Spain’s airport network are experiencing disruptions that may cause delays. Efforts are underway to resolve the problem, and systems are being managed manually in the interim.
By midday Madrid time, Aena reported that all airports in Spain were operational and flights were continuing. Aemet stated:
“Airports and airlines worldwide are experiencing similar issues. Operations are ongoing but with some delays, and airlines are adjusting their schedules. Contingency plans were implemented early this morning, and manual processes are being used to keep operations running.”
Both departures and arrivals are delayed, though no airports have ceased operations entirely.
Businesses and institutions globally have been affected by a major IT outage. In the UK, GP surgeries reported being unable to access patient records or schedule appointments. Sky News experienced a brief interruption but has since resumed broadcasting. Additionally, Britain’s largest train company advised passengers to anticipate disruptions due to “widespread IT issues.”
Around the world, banks, supermarkets, and other key organizations reported similar computer problems, leading to service disruptions. Some airlines issued warnings of delays, and several airports had to ground flights.
