Xbox and Amazon have partnered to eliminate the need for an Xbox console for Game Pass Ultimate members who own an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K or Fire TV Stick 4K Max and have a reliable internet connection.

With these devices and a Bluetooth-enabled wireless controller, users can access and play hundreds of games from Xbox’s Game Pass streaming library through the Xbox app, without needing a console. The app supports various Bluetooth-enabled wireless controllers, including the Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, PlayStation DualSense, and PlayStation DualShock 4.

Game Pass members in over 25 countries, such as the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, can use this cloud gaming feature via the Xbox app on Amazon’s Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick 4K Max starting in July. This announcement aligns with Microsoft’s strategy to transition Xbox towards a software and service model, moving away from the traditional hardware and software approach of competitors like Nintendo and Sony.

The recent partnership emphasizes the portability of the Fire TV Stick, enabling users to easily transition their gaming setup from one room to another or take it on the go, provided they have a stable internet connection and a compatible Bluetooth-enabled wireless controller. This flexibility ensures a seamless gaming experience anytime, anywhere.

Amazon highlighted this announcement in a blog post, noting that gamers no longer need to invest in a console and can enjoy a more portable gaming experience. The post states, “One of the biggest benefits of cloud gaming is the ability to play premium games without investing in a console system. The Fire TV Stick may be compact, but it can stream and run graphically intense Xbox games like Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II thanks to Microsoft’s cloud servers doing the heavy lifting.

“This portability also means you can easily move your cloud gaming setup from the living room TV to a different room or even take it on the road. As long as you have a solid internet connection, your compatible Fire TV Stick, and a compatible controller, your game library and saved progress travels with you.”

To utilize Xbox Cloud Gaming on Fire TV, users will need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership, which provides access to a vast library of games, including popular titles like Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Starfield, and Forza Horizon 5. Non-members can still enjoy ‘Fortnite’ without a subscription, while those seeking broader access can join Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Playing games using Fire TV is straightforward: users need to install the app, log in with their Microsoft account, and start playing. However, it’s important to note that Xbox Cloud Gaming is not yet available in all regions. Players in countries like India will have to wait a bit longer before they can take advantage of this new feature and move away from traditional consoles.
