Apple has rejected Twitter’s attempt to rebrand as “X” in the App Store due to the platform’s minimum character requirements. Despite Elon Musk’s efforts to promote the new name and logo, the app cannot be listed as “X” on iOS devices. Apple’s rules state that app names can be up to 30 characters long, but must consist of at least 2 characters, otherwise, they will be rejected.
Although some users have reported seeing the “X” app on their iPhones or iPads after updating, the name restriction still prevails in the App Store. Various search attempts, such as “X,” “X app,” and “Twitter,” have all led to Twitter’s original listing. The search for “X” yields results like Xbox and a VPN service, while searching for an “X app” brings up Twitter, complete with its traditional logo and name.
Elon Musk’s rebranding efforts have faced challenges, and the amalgamation of Twitter’s existing branding with the generic “X” has resulted in confusion. On the bright side, Twitter has managed to display as “X” in the Google Play Store, but the situation with Apple remains unresolved.
For now, Twitter will continue to be available in the App Store until a resolution is reached with Apple.
