Tupac Shakur, the iconic rapper, actor, and poet, has been immortalized in many ways, including a statue in Stone Mountain, Georgia. However, the statue has recently been removed from the property.
The Tupac statue was originally located at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts, a non-profit organization founded by Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur. The center was created to provide a safe haven for young people to express themselves through the arts. The center was also a place for the community to come together and celebrate Tupac’s life and legacy.
Unfortunately, the center was sold five years ago for $1.2 million and the Tupac statue was removed from the property. The new owner, Jim Burnett, has vowed to create a more realistic statute of the hip hop legend for the center, which he renamed the Peace Garden Park and Amphitheater.
The original statue was created by Atlanta-based artist Nijel Binns. It was a nine-foot bronze sculpture of Tupac wearing a leather jacket and a bandana. The statue was unveiled in 2005 and was a popular attraction for visitors to the center.
However, the statue was removed from the property shortly after the sale of the center. The new owner, Jim Burnett, has stated that he plans to create a more realistic statute of Tupac that will be displayed at the Peace Garden Park and Amphitheater.
The original statue was not the only tribute to Tupac that was removed from the property. Other items, such as a mural of Tupac, a mural of Afeni Shakur, and a garden dedicated to Tupac were also removed.
