Google has unveiled LaMDA, a ground-breaking research initiative that aims to alter the entire nature of AI language models. In the middle of 2020, OpenAI presented the all-powerful language technique known as  GPT-3. It transforms the world and landed headlines in very significant media and outlet magazines. This unbelievable technology can generate poetry, music, code, fiction, and many other spectacular artifacts.

It was believed that other tech organizations will not diminish. Recently at Google I/O  annual conference meeting, Google executive members introduced the last research and technologies of an amazing firm. LaMDA is an AI capable of having a conversation like a human.

LaMDA a conversational AI:

LaMDA is a short form of ‘Language Model for Dialogue Applications’. LaMDA, like prior models such as BERT and GPT-3, is built on Google’s transformer architecture, which was open-sourced in 2017. This architecture enables the model to predict text by focusing just on the relationships between preceding words.

LaMDA is similar to other existing models in this regard. However, there is a  significant difference between this technology and other chatbots. LaMDA can handle interactions that are ‘open-ended’. Human talks have this characteristic chaotic aspect, as VP Eli Collins and Senior Research Director Zoubin Ghahramani explain in their blog post. Human talks have a certain chaotic quality to them. We can start with one issue and then switch to a completely another one within a few minutes. We tend to start conversations by connecting disparate topics in unexpected ways. LaMDA will transform chatbot technology by addressing these issues. With these capabilities, a chatbot might easily engage in natural discussions with humans. We could more naturally seek information or consult the internet.

Features Of The Next Gen Chatbot:

LaMDA, like its predecessor Meena; a conversational AI that Google unveiled in 2020, was featured in dialogue. Meena demonstrated that chatbots can converse about almost anything. It was trained to reduce perplexity, a measure of a model’s confidence in guessing the next token.

LaMDA, on the other hand, went a step further. It is better at assessing reasonableness. If a sentence makes sense in the context of a discussion and keeping its responses specific. As the authors point out in their article, a statement like ‘I don’t know is not always sensible, but it’s always worthless.

Recently, the world of tech is struggling an ethical battle to minimize biases and potentially illegal and harmful utilization in AI systems. Google is bothered with this, so they want to put authority and responsibility first of all. Their major goal is at reducing gender and race biases, hateful talk, and irrelevant information in systems like LaMDA.

Let’s wrap it up:

In the world of conversational AI, LaMDA is the next big thing. To assess how human it appears, we’ll have to put it to the test ourselves. But based on what we have seen this far, it looks expertise. However, to entirely control conversations, conversational AIs would need to be able to ask unexpected questions and change topics.

An AI with the capability to incorporate pragmatic comprehension in its conversational toolkit could be even more beyond belief than LaMDA or GPT-3. But for that, AI needs a body and lives among us in this world.
