Recently a video on social media went viral in which a native of the Island is seen claiming large scale destruction caused to the Island by the administation department on the pretext of making it a smart city. Following the allegation many people have come forward to support the native citizens of the Island. Kerala Rajyasabha MP Mr. Elamaram Kareem on Monday, 24th May has written to the President of India to urgently call back the Lakshadweep administrator Praful Khoda Patel for his ‘anti people’ order.
Patel was appointed as the administrator of the Island on 5th December 2020,as soon as he got appointed, he changed the operating procedures on the island for preventing the spread of the pandemic. The new orders issued by Patel lacked consideration towards citizens,their choices and lives.
In his letter to the President Kareem stated that 38 anganwadis were closed and 190 officials from tourism department were terminated. New regulations including ban on slaughter, buying and selling of beef in the name of ‘animal prevention’ made 100s of workers lose their jobs.
In this critical situation, a large number of politicians,celebrities and people have come forward in support of the citizens of the island.
