Affordable retail brands have long demonstrated how low-cost pricing can increase access to everyday essentials. A new digital platform, PoundSchool, aims to apply the same principle to education and mental health resources.

PoundSchool is being developed as a £1 knowledge store, where learners can access individual courses, educational materials, and mental health content at a fixed, low price. The platform is designed to reduce financial barriers that often prevent people from engaging in lifelong learning.

The platform was conceived and technically designed by Saleem, a technology professional who identified parallels between affordable retail models and the accessibility challenges within online education.

“Education should be as accessible as everyday necessities,” Saleem explained. “Lowering the cost encourages people to explore learning opportunities they might otherwise avoid.”

During early design validation, over 300 users reviewed sample course flows and pricing concepts, with the majority indicating that the £1 model made them more willing to try new subjects and skills.

PoundSchool is currently in the design and prototype phase, focusing on scalable architecture, secure micro-payments, and accessible content delivery.
