Just out of the success of "Longlegs," Maika Monroe is set to star in a remake of the 1992 psychological thriller, "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle." The actress will join the movie, which will be directed by Michelle Garza Cervera, whose horror debut "Huesera: The Bone Woman" has been talked about all over the film festival circuit last year.

The original film of a vengeful widow who infiltrates a family as their nanny and, devastated by the loss of her child, manipulates the family with sinister intentions, posing to steal away their children and husband for herself, Directed by Curtis Hanson and starring Rebecca De Mornay.

Reports indicate that initially, Maika Monroe was auditioned for the role of nanny in this version. The movie is a two-hander and would be a tightly wound psychological thriller. The script is by Micah Bloomberg; Ted Field, Michael Schaefer, and Mike Larocca will be producing.

Monroe, best known for roles in "The Stranger" and "It Follows," brings to the role an odd but powerful presence to the screen. Its complex characters combined with visionary direction by Cervera guarantee a chillingly suspenseful remake.

But when the movie's fans finally get their hands on this new adaptation, the question still lingers: Will the new adaptation of "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle" be able to create its own version of the chill factor and psychological depth of its predecessor? Only time can tell.
