Star comedian and actress Miranda Hart has announced that she married last month at age 51. Following a few tough years with Lyme disease and chronic fatigue, the star showcased her wonderful tale of finding love when people do not expect it.
In her new book I Haven't Been Entirely Honest With You, Miranda recounts this romantic moment with her boyfriend at the Kew Gardens in London when he proposed to her. She relates the moment in her signature witticism, confessing to how so much of a sucker she was for the old-fashioned proposal she never thought of herself as being such, after all.
There had been a lot of guesswork about her relationship and then her marriage. She finally confirmed the wedding on The One Show and pointed out that this happened during her book promotion tour. Many of her fans were elated, as they had been following her journey for many years. "I'm married, I got married at 51, and it's just so lovely!" she shares excitedly.
Through her book, Miranda shares her very intimate experience, detailing some of the hardships she has been through in terms of health. She suffered chronic fatigue following her diagnosis with Lyme disease, which drastically affected her life. This illness, aside from testing her physically, also tested her psychologically because she had to cope with some of the problems experienced when suffering from a long-term health condition. Despite all these, however, the actress had the comfort of her relationship with the love of her partner, described as fully accepting of all her flaws and imperfections. "There was someone knowing all my ridiculousness and brokenness and still willing to bend down, look up, and commit to loving me," she laments about this state.
Her proposal was charmingly simple. It is an "ordinary January day," as Miranda describes it, when she and her partner take a walk through the lovely Kew Gardens. On a bridge overlooking the lake, he turns to her with some unanticipated gravity. "We stood still on the bridge over-looking the lake when the silence was pierced as he rather seriously said, 'Miranda.'" She continues to elaborate on how he kneel, asked for her hand, and got ready to be married by telling everyone to stand back. Miranda remembers hardly anything after that due to excitement. "I just burst out crying," she writes, noting that she said yes even before he finished the proposal, joking that it would have been awkward if he'd been tying his shoelace instead.
While Miranda has been extremely candid about her personal life and health battles in her book, she has maintained her husband's identity under wraps. During her television appearance, she also told the media that his name and details of how they actually met remained private. However, adding a little mystery for her readers to savor through her memoir, she remarked thus: "It's just a small undercurrent in the book, I'm not going to reveal how we met because that's just a little bit of a twist." What she revealed, however was how deeply she held their relationship close to her heart. "He is my best friend, we had the best fun and I'm just thrilled to be a young bride at 51," she declared.
Recent months witnessed eagle-eyed fans noticing Miranda sporting a wedding band in some of her Instagram posts, generating much speculation about her relationship status. But the confirmation of her marriage has delighted her many followers-for those who have watched her blossom as an artist over the years and have felt connected to her down-to-earth persona.
For many, Miranda Hart's story speaks very much about the fact that love does come to people when it might just come at old age and often when it is least expected. She filled her life with moments of humor, resilience, joy, health challenges, of course. Her journey warms fans because she's overcome all the tough years passed behind her for herself to get stronger. Now, she has always been fine in her marriage, embracing this chapter of her life with great determination.
