Manchester United suffers several injury concerns with its team members ahead of their final pre-season game against Liverpool in the United States. Manager Erik ten Hag's squad has been trying to handle warm-up matches against Arsenal and Real Betis ahead of a long new Premier League season. The game with Liverpool is going to be the last friendly before entering into competitive play.
The newest member of United's casualty list is Marcus Rashford, who suffered a sore foot in the game with Real Betis. Though there were some early fears, Ten Hag has indicated that Rashford's injury does not appear to be too serious, but he may well be rested to make sure that he is fit for the first game of the season. "We don't take risks in the last game of the tour, especially with the season starting next week," Ten Hag said.
Another doubt is Antony, who was also injured in the game against Real Betis, the extent of which is not yet known. Rasmus Hojlund is out due to injury - the Dane may be out for as many as six weeks after going down with a hamstring problem during the game against Arsenal. Hojlund scored ten Premier League goals last season and will be missed during the early stages of the campaign.
Tyrell Malacia hasn't played since May 2023 due to surgeries on his knees, although he now seems to be on the mend. According to Ten Hag, it is a positive update on his return, and may have him come back as early as October.
So far, new signing Leny Yoro has not had it very easy at Old Trafford; he suffered a metatarsal fracture in the Emirates Stadium friendly, an injury that has kept him out of the fields. He is not forecast to come back till October, ruling him out for the start of the Premier League season.
These injuries are, therefore, significant for Manchester United as they prepare for the Community Shield against Manchester City and for the Premier League opener against Fulham. It's a task for Ten Hag, therefore, to juggle around the availability of his players so that they can get ready for competitive matches with the best preparation possible.
