Kim Kardashian recently appeared in a Paris court to speak about the scary robbery she faced in 2016. The incident happened during Paris Fashion Week when a group of armed men broke into her rented apartment, tied her up, and stole millions of dollars worth of jewelry. Nearly ten years later, the people accused of the crime are finally standing trial.
In October 2016, Kim Kardashian was alone in her Paris apartment when several men, pretending to be police officers, forced their way inside. They tied her hands and feet with tape and zip ties, held her at gunpoint, and stole her expensive jewelry, including her $4 million diamond engagement ring. Kim later described the moment as one of the most frightening experiences of her life.
During the trial, Kim’s close friend and stylist, Simone Harouche, also shared her memories of that night. She was in the apartment when the robbery happened and recalled waking up to Kim’s screams.
"I heard Kim screaming in fear, begging for her life, saying she had children and wanted to live," Simone said in court. "It was a scream of pure terror—nothing like I had ever heard from her before."
After the robbers left, Kim managed to free herself and ran downstairs, still shaking with fear. Simone said she had never seen Kim so scared and traumatized.
Ten people are on trial for the robbery—nine men and one woman. Some of them are in their 60s and 70s, which is why the media has nicknamed them the "grandpa robbers." Prosecutors say they are experienced criminals with long histories of theft and other crimes.
Most of them have denied being involved in the robbery, but police found strong evidence against them. Investigators used DNA from the tape and zip ties used to tie Kim up, along with months of wiretapping and surveillance, to track them down.
The trial is being heard by three judges and a six-person jury and is expected to last until the end of May. Some of the accused face serious charges like armed robbery, kidnapping, and working as part of a criminal gang. Others are accused of helping in smaller ways.
After the robbery, Kim Kardashian made big changes to her security. She hired more bodyguards and stopped posting on social media in real time. Before the attack, she often shared pictures of her expensive jewelry online, which may have made her a target.
Simone Harouche explained in court that the robbery had a lasting effect on Kim. "She was never the same after that night," Simone said. "She became much more careful about her safety and what she shares publicly."
The trial has drawn a lot of attention, with journalists and fans gathering outside the courthouse to catch a glimpse of Kim. However, French law does not allow cameras inside the courtroom, so no photos or videos of the trial have been released.
Theo Chbouki, an 18-year-old fashion student who was outside the court, said he was curious to see Kim in such a serious setting. "It’s strange but interesting to see her here, away from reality TV and social media," he said.
Kim Kardashian’s testimony is a key part of the trial. She is expected to describe exactly what happened that night and how it affected her. The court will then decide whether the accused are guilty and what their punishment should be.
For Kim, this trial is a chance to finally face the people who terrified her nearly a decade ago. While she has moved on with her life, the memory of that night still haunts her.
