Lux Prima album to be reissued on Sept. 20

Karen O and Danger Mouse have unveiled their indie rock lullaby, "Super Breath," marking their first musical release since the 2019 album Lux Prima. The song explores the complexities of a rocky relationship, with Karen O's poignant chorus reflecting unfulfilled love: “Because you know I’m not satisfied/No, no, no, I’m not/But you keep on coming up.”

Produced by Danger Mouse, "Super Breath" veers away from the sound of Lux Prima, a nine-track LP celebrated for blending Karen O’s raw edge with Danger Mouse’s atmospheric production. Rolling Stone's Brittany Spanos described Lux Prima as a "lush journey down the milky way of their rock ’n’ roll sensibilities." In contrast, "Super Breath" gently navigates the warning signs of a toxic relationship.

The reissue of Lux Prima is set for September 20, accompanied by a separate 7″ vinyl featuring "Super Breath" on the A side and a previously unreleased cover of Lou Reed’s "Perfect Day" on the B side. Lux Prima was Karen O’s first major project since Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ album Mosquito.

In a 2019 Rolling Stone interview, Karen O reflected on her 20-year career, emphasizing the importance of artistic expression and collaboration. She mentioned channeling feminine energy into the Lux Prima track “Woman” and highlighted her creative risks, such as the 2011 opera Stop the Virgens. "The greatest currency of being an artist is the experience of the process," Karen O shared. "Collaborating with people and trying something new together — that’s what I’ll remember on my deathbed. Not the product, but the process."
