British entrepreneur Omar Tinsley has condemned what he describes as a “puppy death camp” after visiting MBR Acres, a Cambridge-based facility that breeds and kills beagle puppies for use in animal testing.

Tinsley says seeing the facility in person left him shocked and determined to speak out.“Seeing it with my own eyes made it undeniable. This isn’t science, it’s cruelty disguised as progress,” he said.

Scientific ConcernsAccording to Tinsley, the beagles are not chosen because their biology is relevant to humans, but because they are docile and trusting. He cites stark statistics showing the limitations of such testing:

• Over 90% of drugs tested on dogs fail in human clinical trials.
• Even drugs that “pass” in dogs harm humans more than 50% of the time.
• Dog testing predicts just 19% of serious human side effects.
• 96% of dog testing in the UK is conducted on beagles.

One infamous example is the painkiller Vioxx, which was declared safe after dog testing but went on to cause up to 140,000 heart attacks and 60,000 deaths in humans.

Solidarity with Camp BeagleTinsley has voiced his full support for Camp Beagle, the protest camp that has been stationed outside MBR Acres since 2021. The campaign has drawn national attention to the plight of the beagles and the ethics of animal testing in the UK.

“The people at Camp Beagle are on the front lines every single day, standing up for animals who cannot defend themselves. I stand with them in demanding this facility be shut down,” Tinsley said.

Call for ChangeTinsley argues that the UK has the tools to end animal testing on dogs today. He points to alternatives such as organ-on-a-chip technology, human cell cultures, and AI models, which he says are faster, cheaper, and more reliable for predicting human safety.

“It’s mass breeding, mass torture, and mass killing for results that don’t even work,” Tinsley said. “The only reason it continues is profit.”

He is now urging policymakers, the scientific community, and the public to support a transition to modern research methods and to close down facilities like MBR Acres.
