In an interview, Pillsbury described the tour as a "perfect little match," comparing it to the wholesome vibes of the Sweat tour. While artists like Charli XCX and Troye Sivan do bring a party atmosphere to performances, Pillsbury and Abrams' music is what audiences appreciate for something more intimate and melancholic.
A photo posted on the Instagram page of Role Model tells it all. One of the fans has worn a t-shirt that reads, "Therapists hate them." The humor in this simple reference to emotional depth reflects the kind of relationship that Pillsbury and Abrams' music comes to establish with the audience.
It so came about that Pillsbury got the opportunity to tour with Abrams. Preparing to announce his headlining world tour supporting his sophomore album, "Kansas Anymore," he heard from Abrams herself. She invited him to join her on The Secret of Us Tour, and he took it in a flash.
"She's a friend for years and I'm a fan for years," Pillsbury explained. "So to be touring with a friend like that it's pretty lucky."
To make the collaboration come together, Pillsbury's team was able to delay the start date of his own tour so he could join Abrams on the road. A high point in the tour came when Abrams brought Pillsbury on stage for a duet version of her song "Feels Like." Millions of people watched when she posted the performance on TikTok and Instagram, and the moment became quickly viral.
"That was crazy," Pillsbury said of the experience. "Getting on stage with her was incredible. It felt like a very big moment for me."
This is against the backdrop of Pillsbury preparing for his headlining world tour in November, so he should indeed be taking this good energy and inspiration along from the tour with Gracie Abrams. The tour has not only further cemented their friendship but has also been a powerful testimony to music's ability to intertwine people on an emotional level.
