Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor is the second child and only daughter of Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. She was born on June 4, 2021, at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California.
The name Lilibet is a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, who was known to her family as “Lilibet” when she was a child. The name Diana is a tribute to Prince Harry’s late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.
Lilibet is seventh in line to the British throne, behind her grandfather, Prince Charles; her father, Prince Harry; her uncle, Prince William; her brother, Archie; and her cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Lilibet is the first mixed-race member of the British royal family. Her mother, Meghan, is biracial, and her father, Prince Harry, is Caucasian. This makes Lilibet the first person of color to be born into the British royal family in modern times.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a statement shortly after Lilibet’s birth, saying, “On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been living in California since they stepped down from their roles as senior members of the British royal family in early 2020. They have not yet announced any plans to return to the United Kingdom.
Lilibet is the first grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II to be born in the United States. She is also the first great-grandchild of the Queen to be born in the United States.
