In 2004, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck got engaged after a whirlwind romance. However, the couple soon ended their engagement and Lopez returned the 6.1-carat pink diamond engagement ring that Affleck had given her.
In a 2020 interview with Apple Music host Zane Lowe, Lopez reflected on the ring and how much she had loved it. She said, “It was beautiful. It was a pink diamond. It was gorgeous. I loved getting it. I was so excited.”
Lopez and Affleck had met in 2002 on the set of the movie “Gigli” and their relationship quickly became the subject of intense media scrutiny. They got engaged in November 2003 and the ring, which was estimated to be worth $2.5 million, was widely publicized.
However, the couple ended their engagement in January 2004 and Lopez returned the ring. In the years since, Lopez has gone on to have a successful career and has been married three times. She is currently engaged to Alex Rodriguez.
Though Lopez gave the ring back when they ended the engagement in 2004, she recalled how much she “loved getting it” in a 2020 interview with Apple Music host Zane Lowe. She also reflected on the media scrutiny that surrounded her relationship with Affleck and how it had affected her.
Lopez said, “I think it was hard for me because I was so young and it was a lot of pressure. I was like, ‘Oh my God, I don’t know if I can handle this.’”
Though Lopez and Affleck have both moved on since their 2004 breakup, the engagement ring remains a reminder of their time together. Despite the fact that she gave it back, Lopez still looks back fondly on the experience of receiving it.
