Himawari 8 (ひまわり8号) is a Japanese weather satellite, the 8th of the Himawari geostationary weather satellites operated by the Japan Meteorological Agency The satellite was launched on October 7, 2014 and is currently in geostationary orbit at 1407° East longitude The Himawari 8 satellite is equipped with an advanced imaging system that can take pictures of the Earth’s surface every 10 minutes
